Story
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
The idea for We Can't Wait was brought to the Rotary Club of Box Hill Central by club member Mark Balla, who had learned during a trip to India that many schools in the developing world have no toilets.
He learned about the terrible impact this had on the lives of the children in these schools, and most particularly on the lives of adolescent girls in the schools and he felt compelled to do something about it.
The Rotary Club of Box Hill Central adopted the mission with gusto and the rest is history. To date we have reached over 100,000 children plus many community members with projects in India, Ethiopia, and Nepal.
Not long after joining our club, Mark delivered TEDx talk in New Zealand explaining the issue in more detail.
OUR MISSION
Our Innovative Funding Strategy: multiplying your impact
Operation Toilets Australia Inc. (trading as we can’t wait) maximizes every donation by using strategic funding models that ensure best practices are implemented and your funds are significantly multiplied.
We partner with The Rotary Foundation (TRF) through their Global Grants program. Rotary District contributions are amplified by TRF and added to contributions from individuals, corporates and Rotary Clubs. This model has successfully funded eight global grants in India and one in Ethiopia.
We also partner with International Needs Australia (INA), which is accredited to receive funding from the Australian Government’s ANCP. Crucially, through this partnership, every contribution from a we can't wait donor is matched by INA using funds they raise. This model effectively doubles the resources for vital projects in Ethiopia and Nepal, directly multiplying the impact of your support.
